Downsizing and Moving

Do you or someone you know want to downsize or simlify your life? Are you seeking a change because the kids have moved out and now the house is too big, or you’ve experienced the death of a spouse or divorce? Maybe you or a family member is getting older and mobility has become an issue necessitating the need to move or modify your home for disabled access. You may be recently retired and, like I did, are preparing to take a world voyage. Whatever your situation, now is the time to match your environment to your needs.

Downsizing - Full Sail OrganizingDownsizing does not mean getting rid of everything you own. I can help you prioritize and organize so that you have the best of everything you want and need.

There are many benefits to downsizing; financial savings, less stress, less time spent cleaning and maintaining your home and more joy from living a simplified life. Everything you own has a claim on your attention. You’ll feel the sense of freedom, like a weight has been lifted, that accompanies letting go of years worth of accumulations.

People who have an excess of stuff often have a long “To Do” list. Can you imagine how different it would be to wake up and not have a list of things to do? Other benefits of downsizing or “rightsizing” your life may include a sense of accomplishment, a boost in self-confidence or a more motivated and creative self. Anything you can imagine is possible.

At first glance, the process of downsizing can seem overwhelming or daunting. With the help of Full Sail Organizing, the job is broken down into managable chunks and follows a logical path from start to finish.  My job is to make it as easy as possible for you by providing resources and solutions for eliminating your excess and by coaching you through the tough decisions about what to keep and what to let go of.

What to do with all your things? How to realize value from expensive items and family heirlooms? These are just some of the questions that come up while downsizing or preparing to move. Thankfully, there are lots of options for disposing of the things you no longer need. I can help you can put together a garage sale, estate sale or sell items on Craig’s List or eBay. I’ll photograph, research and write the copy to get your valuables sold.

Often donating is the best way to go. I’ll guide you through the many options and resources.  I help you determine which option is best for you. Prior to a move, I’ll sort, pack, label, inventory and prepare for the movers. You can participate as much or as little as you choose.

Before I set sail for 7 years, I downsized my own 3bdrm/3bath home and a busy life to fit onto a 52’ sailboat. I know how hard it can be to let go of a lifetime’s possessions. I’ve done the garage sales and the donations. I’ve pared down and then had to pare down again.  In the beginning I didn’t know how I would do it. In the middle, there were some tears.

In the end, I can honestly say, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted and that I was finally free from my stuff and able to move ahead without having one foot in the past. Learning the joys of living simply and wanting to share it with you is the main reason I started Full Sail Organizing.
